Warning:

So, after getting some quality time with the Monster Hunter 3 demo for the Wii, I have to say I couldn't be more excited for the series. This game is bringing some much needed things to the series, while still maintaining the same game we love. Some very simple things really caught my eye, these minor details make the game so much more enjoyable than previous installments. Some of these minor things include:
-Being able to mine, fish, or use a bugnet without needing to scroll to the relative item in your inventory drop down menu. As long as you have pick-axes, all you have to do is hit A near a mining spot and it mines away. (this also works when you have a lit torch out, you don't have to douse the torch first, you just mine away!)
-Gunners have a seperate 4th bag to their inventory which is solely for Ammo. You don't understand how happy this makes me lol. Always a pain to lug around all that ammo, and then throwing whatever you didn't use away just so you could get your carves.
-A double portable spit. Being able to cook 2 steaks at a time saves so much down time. Gathering steaks will no longer be such a chore.
Those are just a few of the little changes that I really like. The game also sports a shiney new set of graphics, and although they are not really award winning graphics, they are a nice step up from what we are used to playing. Although the Bloom effect may be a bit much, it makes the game seem a little too soft sometimes. But I'm alright with that, cause it makes the scenery absolutely gorgeous. (Monster Hunter games are the few games I would play just to have a chance to adventure in the world they created, I've always loved all the areas, always mystical and beautiful. And they are even better in MH3).
My Impressions on the new monsters:
-Dos Jaggi:
I was worried this guy would be harder than he was. I feared he would be agile and hit hard. And be relatively hard to attack. I was wrong. He's actually quite an easy foe. No harder than the 'Dromes (Veloci-,Gen-, Iop-, etc.) from previous games. His attacks are easily dodgeable, even with slower weapons. And the minions he calls in are weak and barely attack much. (Although they can knock you down at bad moments, they are very easily dispatched). With a group of 2 or more hunters he will be a joke.
-Quru-Pecco:
This is one annoying monster to fight. It's like they created this monster to piss people off imo. This fruity bird looking thing has incredibly annoying attacks, while still being relatively easy. One on one, he's a pushover. But when he calls in another boss-like monster, it can get a little tough. His attacks are easy to dodge, and he doesn't really hit very hard. The problem is that this goon can heal himself as well as any monsters he's called in. He can also buff himself and do other status effects through his fruity little song and dance routine. These dances can be interrupted, which usually results in the buff/heal/etc. effecting you instead of it. (which is cool). The problem is, he has usually called in another monster. Like Dos Jaggi (With it's mini-jaggi gang as well) or something nasty like a Rathian. This complicates things, cause while you're distracted with another monster, or just trying to avoid it, the Quru-Pecco will be off in the back dancing and singin'. So frustrating trying to interrupt it's dance with a pack of Jaggi on your ass.
However, this monster will be another pushover with a group for sure.
Another nice thing about MH3, is the changes they have made to some weapons. Every weapon in the demo has gotten some new goodies. All of which are awesome in my opinion, although Hammer feels a little unloved xP (Guess you can't improve perfection haha) Some of these goodies are as follows:
Great Sword:
New Charge attack that finishes a combo. (Always nice)
"Paddleslap" attack with K.O. properties.
Sword/Shield:
Can do things like holding a torch with weapon drawn and using items.
Shield bash-like attacks, also with K.O. properties.
Hammer:
New middle charged attack, which is a quick dash forward uppercut type move, which can be worked into a combo. Fast and agile
Bowgun:
Lovely new types of ammo
No other noticeable changes.
I'm really looking forward to the other weapons as well. Especially my good ol lances and the new Slash Axe.
The swimming portion of the game is phenominally executed in my opinion. It's different and offers a unique challenge to mastering. It's a bit harder to move around and attack, but the addition of a y-axis movement is nice. Weapon attacks look awesome underwater, and the emotes are rather entertaining underwater too. And being underwater isn't even a taxing process. Your character has an incredibly long breathe gauge, and even after that is gone, it slowly ticks away your health (about the same rate as poison/fire.) None of the water is all that deep, and there's even little bubble-streams that creep from the sea floor that will completely refill your breathe gauge instantly by swimming over them. All in all, a great new addition to MH.
There's still a lote more to the demo than what I've posted. If you have any questions I'll be sure to try and answer them. Personally I cannot wait for the full release of Monster Hunter 3.
